The Constitution

Article 1 – Name and Objective

  1. The Club will be called The Aristocats Club

  2. The Club will be a non-profit making organisation

  3. The objectives of The Aristocats Club are:

    a) To sponsor and promote the welfare of all breeds of cats

    b) To take an active interest in their care and protection

    c) To cultivate friendship and promote cat owners, fanciers and breeders.

    d) To encourage spaying and neutering of all cats not specifically being used as part of a specific breeding program. The aim being to reduce over-population and the production of unwanted kittens and cats.

    e) To promote and encourage kindness and assist in the prevention to all animals of cruelty and bad treatment.

    f) To encourage all cat breeding towards FIFe Breed Standards and promote the registration of cats with the FIFe member Felis Britannica.

    g) It is not allowed to sell or to hand over cats with FIFe pedigrees to pet shops or to similar organisations.

  

   

Article 2 - Membership

  1. Membership shall be open to all cat-owners sharing in the objectives of The Aristocats Club

  2. Application for membership shall be made in writing on the official application form to the secretary of The Aristocats Club

  3. Membership acceptance will be subject to a majority vote and be dealt with on an individual basis at the next committee meeting.

  4. The chairman will have the casting vote. The applicant will be regarded as a probationary member until that time.

  5. The Aristocats Club reserves the right to refuse membership without any explanation and right of appeal.

  6. Notice of acceptance, or rejection, will be sent to the applicant by the Club Secretary.

  7. It shall be the duty of each member to uphold the aims of The Aristocats Club and to fulfil the terms of all transactions concerned with cats, e.g. sales, stud fees, pedigrees, etc. whether such business is being carried out either by the members themselves, other members, breeders or pet owners generally. Upon receipt of a written complaint from any injured party the member may be subject to disciplinary procedures.

   

   

Article 3 – Subscription

  1. The amount of the annual subscription for The Aristocats Club will be decided by the committee and reviewed as and when necessary.

  2. The annual subscription shall run from 1st of the month the member first joined and be renewed in the same month each subsequent year.

  3. Failure to pay subscriptions within thirty days after the due date will result in an automatic suspension of membership, a reminder will ensue with an opportunity to pay within a further thirty days. If subscriptions are paid within the second thirty-day period the member will have the suspension lifted 1st January the following year. Failure to pay by the end of the second thirty-day period will result in automatic expulsion.

  

   

Article 4 – Meetings

  1. Meetings shall be held on such dates, time and place, as the committee shall designate dependent on the wishes of the majority.

  2. All meetings will be notified to the membership, by mail, telephone or in person by the Club Secretary, or his/her representative.

  3. Special meetings may be called if necessary for the transaction of urgent business. These may be called by the Chairman, committee, or on written demand of (5) five members. The business discussed at such meetings shall be restricted to the urgent business that is the reason for the call.

  4. Five (5) members shall constitute a quorum for transaction of business at a General Meeting. Three (3) members of the committee shall constitute a quorum for the transactions at a committee meeting.

  

   

Article 5 – Officers and Committee

  1. The Officers of the club shall be a Chairman, a Vice Chairman, a Secretary and a Treasurer. The offices may be combined at the discretion of the club.

  2. All Officers and two members of the committee shall retire every two years and shall be eligible for re-election.

  3. The Chairman and Treasurer may not retire in the same year hence the Chairman shall retire in the first year and shall be eligible for re election.

  4. The committee shall elect the Vice Chairman annually, from the committee.

  5. The committee shall consist of not less than (4) four and not more than ten (10) members.

  6. Committee members shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall take office to serve for the ensuing year.

  7. The committee may co-opt up to four members during a twelve-month period and they may serve until the following Annual General Meeting and thereafter may be eligible for re-election.

  8. Absence from three consecutive committee meetings without good reason or apology shall be deemed a resignation.

   

Article 6 – Duties of Officers

  1. The Chairman or a member of the committee nominated by the Chairman shall preside at all meetings of the members and of the committee and will perform all duties incidental to the Chairman’s office. He/she shall have the casting vote in the event of a non-majority decision.

  2. The Vice Chairman shall perform all the duties of the chairman in his absence.

  3. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all member and committee meetings and shall present them at all ensuing meetings.

  4. The Secretary shall maintain a list of all paid up members, with the names addresses and telephone numbers of each member and shall advise applicants for club membership on the result of their application.

  5. A General Meeting of The Aristocats Club shall be held every year not later than July 31st to transact the following business:

    a) To receive and if approved adopt a statement of the clubs accounts to the end of the previous year

    b) To consider and if approved, amend or alter club rules

    c) To receive and consider any proposals placed by committee or/and membership

    d) To receive and vote on nominations for elections of officers and committee members.

    e) To appoint an auditor

  6. The Secretary shall keep attendance records and notify the members of regular meetings at least one (1) week prior to the date of meeting, also to notify members of the Annual General Meeting at least (4) four weeks prior to the date of the meeting. In the case of the AGM the secretary shall remind all members that nominations for the committee and proposals for the AGM be submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to that AGM.

  7. The Treasurer shall receive and have the custody of all monies and shall deposit all receipts in a bank account in the name of The Aristocats Club. He/she shall keep account of all receipt and expenditures and shall produce a financial report at all regular meetings and audited account at the AGM. He/she shall report to each committee meeting the up to date bank balance and a list of all membership subscriptions paid.

  8. In the event of membership to Felis Britannica, on or before January 1st each year, the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer shall make an Annual Report to the federation, which report shall include, a list of members of the club with their addresses, a list of their officers and committee members, a report (including any financial report) of any shows held during the year, a copy of the club rules, a copy of the financial report of the club and any other information that may be required by Felis Britannica.

  9. All records and books of accounts of The Aristocats Club shall be the property of the club not of the officer administrating them.

  

   

Article 7 – Discipline

The Committee may reprimand, fine or suspend any person who, after a fair and impartial hearing shall be found guilty of violating any rules of The Aristocats Club or Felis Brittanica or of conduct detrimental to the club or the cat fancy.

  

Article 8 – Dissolution of the club

Fourteen days notice must be given in writing to all members of a proposal to winding up of the club and a postal ballot shall be held. On receipt of the result of the ballot a special meeting shall be called and only if two thirds voting are in favour shall the affairs of the club be finalised. If such a resolution is passed the liabilities of the club shall be discharged and any funds remaining shall be disposed of in the manner ordered by a General Meeting.
